DOROTHY & LARRY BAILEY



Dorothy was born and lived in Los Angeles. She moved to Banning when she was in the fourth grade. She lived in Banning for several years. Her family moved back to Los Angeles before her senior year of high school and stayed there for three years. She then married and moved back to Banning, where she has since lived.

Dorothy's father was the head time keeper for the Metropolitan Water District when the water tunnels were being built through the San Jacinto Mountains. He passed away at the age of 63.

Dorothy's mother passed away in 2003 just short of 101 years. She also lived in Banning.

Dorothy was married in 1946 to her first husband. She raised two children, Linda Weigle who is a registered nurse living in Surprise, AZ, and Chris Carper who is in construction and living in Banning. There are ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

Dorothy married Larry (Bumps) Bailey on a cruise ship in San Pedro Harbor and honeymooned on the ship. They were together for nineteen years. Bumps was an optimist and struggled with cancer for seven years before his passing. Bumps was well known in the community for his willing service. He retired after thirty-seven years with the Southern California Gas Company. He was an active Rotarian and a charter member of the Banning-Beaumont Elks Lodge.

Dorothy worked most of her life. She retired after seventeen years with the County of Riverside Assessor's office as the senior clerk. She worked in the Assessor's office in the county building in Banning. She took early retirement to sell Real Estate.

Dorothy is very civic minded. She is a charter member of the Gilman Ranch Hands, where she served on the board for several years. She also belongs to the Soroptimist Club, the Elks Lodge of Banning-Beaumont, twice past president of the Banning High School Alumni Association, where she served for six years as president, and president of the now defunct Banning Junior Women's Club. At present she is a San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital Auxiliary member, and is secretary of the San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital Foundation board. She is a twice past president of the Banning-Beaumont Emblem Club.

Dorothy and Bumps were both very active volunteers and were thrilled to receive the hospital's Perfect Partner Award in 2003.
