The Food and Nutrition Services Department is responsible for preparation and serving appropriate food to patients, employees, medical staff and visitors. The Director works with the dietician to administer the nutritional aspects of patient care. There are 13 employees in this department. In 2008 105,469 meals were provided.

Director John Alcantar has been with SGMH for over 10 years. He is a member and certified by the Certifying Board for Dietary Managers. He may be reached at 951-769-2187.

Patient Meals

Patient meals are served at the times listed below. We may change this schedule to ensure your needs are met and your comfort is assured. Kosher, vegetarian, and a la carte meals are available upon request. Therapeutic diets are served per physician's orders. Patients are encouraged to ask nursing for any special requests.

If your meal isn't warm and appetizing, tell us, and we'll fix that. If the person serving your meal isn't friendly and respectful, we want to know that also. The Dietary Department wants to be part of you having an excellent experience at SGMH.

BREAKFAST: 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM
LUNCH: 12:15 PM to 1:30 PM
DINNER: 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM
SNACKS: 10:00 AM, 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM

We ask that families and other visitors consult with the patient's nurse before bringing food to the hospital.

After hours the House Supervisor may obtain prepackaged food. Dietician consultation is in-house on weekdays and by phone after hours

Cafeteria Meals

Cafeteria services are available for guests to purchase meals during these hours:

BREAKFAST: 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM
LUNCH: 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM
DINNER: 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Snacks are available in the Gift Shop from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, and 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturdays. The Gift Shop is located at the main lobby.
